Milton Keynes' newest local community radio station MKFM is to launch on DAB Digital Radio.
MKFM currently run on a restricted licence (RSL) which means you can hear them online 24/7 and on 107FM in Milton Keynes twice a year for 28 days at a time.
As of 14th February 2013 a new DAB Digital Radio multiplex will launch in the area and MKFM will be one of the stations that will be broadcasting on it alongside other stations such as Heart and BBC Three Counties.
If you own a DAB Digital Radio you will be able to listen to MKFM on there in your car, home, at work or on the go!
The official 'switch-on' of the DAB Digital transmitter will take place on 14th February 2013 at 08:45am.
MKFM Programme Director, Chris Gregg said "With the support of Milton Keynes Council, our MP’s and the community, MKFM will continuing to campaign for a local FM license which will be available next year."
“However, DAB Digital Radio brings the opportunity to provide a true local service up to 18 months earlier than FM.”
This is good news for stations such as MKFM due to the increase in people owning DAB Digital Radios. Approximately 42% of the population own one and more new cars are being made with Digital Radio as standard.
If you do not yet own a DAB Digital Radio, you can buy them from your local supermarket from as little as £15.00
